Large 19th Century Italian School Ottoman portrait identified as Total Osman Pasha, oil on canvas. Circa 1730 profile portrait of the Ottoman military officer and later Grand Vizier. He was defeated and beheaded at the Battle of Kirkuk, his head was later returned so that the body could receive fully burial rites. Presented in a gilt frame. Provenance: Part of a large Orientalist collection including various portraits of 17th-19th century Sultans, Princess & Grand Viziers located in Somerset. Previously purchased from a Paris dealer in the 1970's.
