Large 19th Century The Battle of Trafalgar 1805 Thomas Luny (1759-1837)
Large 19th Century scene of Santisima Trinidad before her capture at the Battle Of Trafalgar, oil on canvas attributed to Thomas Luny. Excellent quality and important historical account of the last action of the Spanish first rate ship of the line before being taken by the British ship HMS Neptune. Santisima Trinidad was the heaviest armed ship carrying the most guns in the history of the Age Of Sail. The work is unsigned but is technically identical to Luny's historical naval paintings. It is likely to be one of a pair as Luny would only sign of, this being the companion piece.
Good condition for its age, with plaque and in its original frame.
