John Henry Yeend King trained in Paris under Lon Bonnat and Fernand Cormon. He exhibited regularly in London at the Royal Academy from 1879, and at the Suffolk Street Gallery from 1874. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists, and vice-president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He exhibited in Berlin and Munich, and won a bronze medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889. The Tate Gallery in London acquired his painting Milking Time in 1898. His paintings of farm-girls in rustic landscapes are popular and highly sought after.
