19th Century Landscape view of a passage near Lake Albino, south of Rome, oil on panel by Franz Knebel. Beautiful study by the Swiss born painter who produced most of his works near Rome, Tivoli and the Great Lakes. Likely a detailed study or prep work for a larger composition. Good provenance with supporting literature and wax collection mark verso. Presented in a gilt frame with artists plaque. Good overall clean condition.

Biography
Swiss painter, active in Italy. He was the nephew and student of Franz Kaisermann (1765-1833). He moved to Rome in 1830. There he painted Italian Landscapes and ruins, and view paintings in both oil and watercolour of well-known sites in and around the capital. His paintings and those of his uncle were often sold to travelers on the grand tour.
