Large 19th Century view of shipwrecked figures at sea, oil on canvas inscribed to Ivan Aivazovsky. Excellent quality and condition scene capturing the beauty and destructive nature of the sea with figures desperate from salvation as part of Aivazovsky's Christian metaphor. Other versions of the scene have been painted by Aivazovsky but usually at sunset where here the composition has been altered to the first light of morning. Presented in an antique gilt frame with artists plaque.
