Artist Biography

Voet left Antwerp for Rome, where he probably lived between 1663 and 1678. While there he was under the patronage of the pontifical court and the local aristocracy, whose portraits he painted, including Hortense Mancini, Duchess of Mazarin, about 1670. His elegant portraits of 'Beauties' were inspired by the style of Carlo Maratti and Mignard. In his works he combines Flemish and Italian pictorial inspiration. He was also active in Turin, Antwerp and at the French court, where he ended his career as the portrait artist of Louis XIV.

In 2001, he was represented at the exhibition Painted Ladies. Women at the Court of Charles II, at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
