Magnificent exhibition scale view of a woodland in autumn with mountains in the distance and sheep resting in the foreground. Signed and dated lower left. Presented in its original handmade antique gilt frame. Good condition for its age and size with some minor wear.

BIOGRAPHY
Sir David Murray (1849-1933) was a Glasgow born painter (being born on 29th January 1849) who started life as a trader in a mercantile firm in Glasgow.
During this time, Murray studied art in the evenings under Robert Greenlees at the Glasgow School of Art, devoting himself to an artistic career from about 1875.
Murray moved to London in 1882 and immediately found success. His 1884 exhibit being purchased by the Chantry Trustees for the Tate Gallery.
Murray was elected a full member of the Royal Academy in 1905. He became President of the Royal Institute in 1917 and was knighted in 1918.
During his life spent in London, Murray occupied the studios of Millais in Portland Place.
In his early career, Murray found his subjects in Scotland, but latterly most of his subjects were in the South of England and on the Continent.
Sir David Murray RA died in Marylebone on 14th November 1933.
