Large 16th Century Italian Old Master depiction of the murder of Saint Maurice and the 10,00 Martyrs, oil on panel attributed to Pontormo. Excellent quality and condition renaissance depiction of the 10000 Christian soldiers including Saint Maurice who, as Theban Christians, refused to follow the orders of Emperor Maximian and kill fellow Christians. The scene shows the execution of the Saint Maurice and his defiant soldiers. Presented in an original early hand carved Italian giltwood frame.
